If you are starting out in the competitive world of Internet marketing you have hopefully discovered by know that the best and easiest way to make money online is to create your own product. What many internet marketing experts don’t tell you is that launching your product can be a very unnerving process and sometimes can even be as difficult as creating the product itself.
But once you have taken the time to create a product there is no turning back. There are many mistakes that can be made when launching a product and it’s best to plan ahead of time exactly how it is you will be launching your product.
By launching a product, the general public will be allowed to look at and scrutinize your product. Inevitably many people will form negative opinions about your product without ever actually making a purchase. It may sound strange but it’s nearly guaranteed to happen. The more exposure your product gets the more people will start to form negative impressions of your product. To make matters worse, negative opinions have a way of spreading whether untrue or not.
Successfully launching a product means you need to be able to handle the criticism that will invariably be thrown your way. The trouble is that many product developers develop an emotional attachment to their product. Negative feedback received on that product can easily devastate their marketing efforts because they simply don’t know how to handle the criticism. You must understand that many people are very negative and are impossible to please. It’s important not to let their criticism be a reflection of your product.
The average consumer has a tendency to comparison shop when making a buying decision. For example, when I make a purchase online I almost always look at other vendors who offer the same product. I ultimately want to get the best value for my money and most consumers share this same attitude. The downside to selling products online is that comparison shopping is very easy to do in contrast to a physical store where the buyer actually has to travel from to another store to do a comparison. When people look at your product it’s very likely that your product will be surrounded other similar products. In short, it really pays to research the competition.
When Microsoft launched the Xbox 360 game console in December of 2005 they knew as much about the competition as the competition knew amount themselves. By having a keen understanding of their competition Microsoft was able to differentiate their product. If you want your product launch to go smoothly you need to do the same thing. Your goal should be to develop a unique selling proposition (USP) for your product. A USP explains why someone should buy your product instead of competitors. Products that have an excellent USP traditionally do well in the marketplace.
